If you stop in for the first time in a while, you’ll notice we’ve gone through some big changes over the past month. Slowly, but surely, we’ve been condensing our space into half of the previous store, and just recently made the final renovations by putting up a wall. The decision was made so that we can expand our jewelry and handbag lines to bring you all more of what you like. We’ll still be your one stop shop for that unique piece to top off an outfit for a big event, or the chic bag that you’ll carry every day (speaking of bags, we just got in some great new Melie Biancos). Hi everyone! I'm Naomi, and I'm going to be doing some guest blogging over here at Jkarma. If you come in on the weekends, you've probably seen me. All business aside, let me introduce myself more. I'm a college senior over at Drexel University, and I've been working at JKarma for about three months now. Interests-wise, fashion is my number one. I'd describe my style as "polished eclectic." I love to mix bohemian and edgy styles with clean lines and classic pieces. Besides being obsessed with apparel, I love to travel. I have an addiction to frozen yogurt. Outside of work, you'll rarely see me without my dog, Abigail. You could say she's the goof and I'm her ball. In my spare time I love to make jewelry, read, and cheer on the Phils.

You must be familiar with the Fit Flop by now, right? There is a lot to be said about this sandal. The reaction customers have had over this sandal has been unbelievably positive. Not that we didn't think this was a great shoe, we just had no idea people would be falling all over themselves for them. (Jeanne, I'm talkin' to YOU!)

Let me take you back to the first time Jeanne and I laid our eyes on the Fit Flop. Our initial thought was Is this really our customer? To which our sales rep responded "What'ya mean? They are for everyone. They are going to fly off the shelf and you'll be placing a re-order." We took that response with a grain of salt as we do with all of our sales reps. (Listen, we love our sales reps especially YOU Robbie Martini! Thats his REAL name! HA) We just have to make sure we are making the right decision during the buying process, ya know?

With that being said we "took a chance" on the Fit Flop and we (Jeanne) could not be happier. Every time a 1st timer comes in and buys a pair I always say "see you for your next pair soon!", and I mean that. Do you do a lot of walking? Are you on you're feet all day long? As you know yesterday was an exciting day for us. One of the reasons it was so good is because we picked up a new LOCAL jewelry line called Penelope and Anastasia! We love working with local jewelry designers. We get tons of tourists in the warmer months and they are always looking to take a little bit of Philly back home with them.

We met Pamela of Penelope and Anastasia through facebook, yay for social networking! We immediately fell in love with her button earrings. I mean really, can you even stand how adorable they are?

Her line is way more extensive than her button earrings and necklaces so come check them out!

Yesterday was a awesome day at J.Karma. We picked up a brand new jewelry line (more details to come!), we received new handbags from the Hilary Radley and KGB Studio Collections which are also two brand new lines for us this season, and we stocked up on tons of new scarves! I have mentioned before how much all of us here at J.Karma love to layer. With warmer weather comes lighter layers! These light weight scarves are bold, colorful, and fun! Something Green..

Yesterday was the Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade! It was so much fun! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE was in their Irish Green. I couldn't help but take note of what people were wearing. For the most part I think people put on every piece of green clothing they own, spray paint their hair/eyebrows green (yes eyebrows, grown men), and put on the funkiest socks they have! The parade goers were looking pretty crazy but these "get ups" have NOTHING on the Mummers Parade. The Mummers are on a whole other level. You know what I mean, right Philly?

Anyway, I on the other hand was decked out in sequins. They weren't green sequins but I felt very festive non the less. So maybe the point of the getting dressed for such festivities is to be obnoxious but here are a few options that are a little more conservative and shall I say stylish. Rainy Days at J.Karma..

Today is just a rainy gloomy day. One of those days you want to curl up on the couch, pop in a 'I Love Lucy' DVD, and sip on something warm. OK, maybe your ideal rainy day is slightly different but you understand what I'm getting at here. It's just one of those days.

It's a little quieter than normal here is Old City, minus the groups of middle school age kids on their field trips to our little historic part of the city. Affectionately sharing umbrellas, boys splashing in puddles purposely trying to get the girls wet, the girls giggling and screaming. You get the idea. Young love.

Anyway, here are a few rainy day photos from around the store. Enjoy and stay dry folks!

There is good news! I had to wait a little longer for my coffee at Starbucks this morning so they gave me a coupon for a free beverage of my choice! How nice! I think I'm going to get a venti mocha with an extra shot of espresso, extra chocolate, and extra extra whipped cream. HA!

Sike. I'll prob get the usual. A tall coffee, little half and half, 1 packet of sugar in the raw.

Now that you know what I drink feel free to bring me one whenever your little hearts desire.

My Longest Handbag Relationship.

I work at a boutique. A boutique that sells handbags. I blame this for my sick obsession with them (and shoes, but thats a separate post all together). I can't get enough. I see one, I love it, I get it. It's as simple as that folks. With that being said, I tend to switch them up depending on what I'm wearing, the color of my jacket, where I'm going, what I'm doing, and the list goes on and on. After writing the last post I realized that the bag I'm currently carrying (pictured) has now been with me for 3 years in all of it's fringe glory. After making this realization I picked up the bag and and took note on it's condition. On a scale from 1 to 10 this bag is STILL a strong 9! There is NOTHING wrong with this bag. When a customer begins to question the quality of a vegan handbag I pull out old faithful and give them "our" story. The top part of my bag is a tad worn, as you can see in the picture, and this is the ONLY reason you may be able to tell it's age (I bet not a single one of you would have said 3 years old though... just sayin'). When I say a tad, I mean you have to look closely to see the imperfections. The lining is still in tip top shape minus a make-up stain or two, but that happens to the best of us ;)! The zippers and inside pockets are functioning as well as the day I bought it! You might just say that I love this bag. Can you blame me? Check out the condition it's in!

I should also tell you that I'm not very good at taking care of my things. This bag has been through hell and back. It's a trooper.

The Small Pocket Book..

Is BACK, and there is nothing any of us can do about it. My first thought was oh my, I want every single one of them (This is what gets Jeanne and I in trouble when we on buying trips). My second thought is how in the heck am I going to transition from my big bag to one of these really small bags? My third thought was, well if this is my biggest worry right now I'm in pretty good shape at the moment. HA.

My big bag is my everyday take to work bag, but the truth of the matter is, I don't need all of this stuff and all of this extra room when I'm running my errands. This is where the small cross-body bag comes in handy. I can put my wallet, keys, and chap-stick in it and I am ready to go!

Lately we have been a little short with you, but for good reason! We have been super busy these past few weeks so lets do a little recap of what has been going on at J.Karma..

1. 1st Friday! We love First Fridays in Old City! If you're in town the first Friday of the month, there is no better way to kick off your weekend! Be sure to stop in and grab a glass of wine or a sweet cocktail from ABSOLUT. This February First Friday was great but we can't help but think about the warmer months to come! First Friday in the Spring/Summer is the BEST!

2. Valentines Day "Sweetheart Sale"! We teamed up with Moko Beauty, Three Sirens Boutique, and Pinot Boutique to bring you a night of "wine-tinis", chocolate, and major sales! Did you come? What did you think?

3. We are participating in the "Philadelphia Flower Show Window Design Contest" again this year. Remember our window last year? We finally finished our display for this year and just sent our pictures in!

4. SHOES & BOOZE! Like we said before, this is one of our favorite events and we already can't wait till the next one! Thanks again to everyone who came out and thank you, thank you, thank you to ABSOLUT and Sarah for providing the booze, and Alex for bar-tending! We also held a "Villette Jewelry" by Kelly Jones Trunk-show! Thanks to Kelly for coming out, we LOVE her jewelry!

5. Our Spring merchandise keeps on rolling in! Over the past 2 weeks we have received NEW Spring handbags from Melie Bianco, Big Buddha, Hilary Radley, and Sondra Roberts SRSquared! We have been editing, photographing, updating the website, twit pic-ing ;), and updating facebook in order to keep you updated on everything NEW.

Yes, I know I know ladies it's a VERY exciting time of the year, but I am going to need you to calm down so I can get through the rest of this post. Thank you ;)

OK. By now we all know what "Shoes & Booze" is all about but what the hey, we are going to go over it one more time because it does sound a tad unbelievable. And maybe there are some newbies out there so lets make sure we are all on the same page. Here it goes..

"Shoes & Booze" at J.Karma is a night you gather all your girlfriends, you get a babysitter if need be, and you make your way to Old City. Which means that Jeanne will without a doubt be busting out her dance moves and if you've never seen her bust out in dance then that my friend is reason enough to get out here!

Whoa! That's a big bag....

You know what, it is a big bag. It really is. I bought this bag to use as a "carry on" or my "go to" when I go away for the weekend but it has turned into so much more than that. Yesterday I decided that this bag deserves it's own post and this is why....

We hung this bag in the window and from that moment on we got a lot of,

" I walk by here a lot and I saw that bag and HAD to come back and check it out"

"I was driving by and I HAD to pull over when I saw that bag"

"Oh my, look at this bag you guys".

Sometimes when I DIE (in Rachel Zoe's voice) over merchandise, customers don't always have the same reaction. This I will never fully understand but I will accept it. I will, soon very soon. WINK ;) BUT, I quickly realized that people were sharing my feelings about this bag. You might be thinking "Oh my gosh, chill out about the bag", and if you are having those thoughts you must not have seen the bag yet.... just sayin'. The initial feeling is that this is a great bag and then you start thinking, is this bag too big for me? Well I am going to show you exactly how this bag started as a travel bag and quickly turned into my everyday bag!

1. Extra pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes. OK, so maybe you don't think this is necessary but sometimes in the middle of the day you have a change of heart about your outfit. We're not the only one's right? Right? Well this bag allows you the room for your "just in case" shoes and you won't even know they are there.

2. Sunnies/ Gloves/ ipod. I think it's OK to assume that most of you carry these things. Sunnies to block the rays (or to just look cool because lets face it, currently there is a lack of sunshine around here). Gloves because it is cold out there! Geez, 60 something days until Spring!! And my ipod so I can jam out. Jam sesh 2011 style! (HA!)

3. Body Spray/ Lotion/ Necessities. Do you see that clutch poking out of "the bag"? That is where I keep these things. Not only do I keep my body spray and lotion is this clutch, I also have toothbrush, toothpaste, chap-stick, nail file, and deodorant in there! I keep all of these things in the clutch to keep it organized. This way all of my necessities are not floating around my big bag.

*TIP* Here is a typical scenario. I'm at work and friends invite me out for a drink but I don't feel that I need to bring EVERYTHING to the bar. I quickly removed my ID, Debit card, keys, and cash from their assigned locations and move them into the clutch and out the door I go! I have nicknamed this bag "My survival kit". True story.

4. Wallet/ Bills/ Coffee Card. My wallet, I really LOVE my wallet by Sondra Roberts SR Squared Collection. Bills. Oh, hey PECO I see you! And my coffee card because we love coffee. We really, really do!

5. *NOT PICTURED* Keys/ Purse hook. Somehow these items did not make the shot. That does not mean they are not important because lets face it, without my keys I wouldn't be able to get into the store, start my car, or get into my apartment. And do I really need to express the importance of the purse hook? If your questioning whether or not the purse hook can handle all of this weight, the answer is yes. Yes it can and it does. All the time.

1962- 1st pair of havaianas were made. Havaianas were inspired by the Zori, a Japanese sandal made of fabric straps and rice straw soles. This is the reason that the foot bed of havaianas have a textured pattern.

The Claddagh Ring

Although many of you may have done your St. Patty’s day celebrations during this past weekend let’s not forget that the real day is this Wednesday! In honor of St. Patrick’s Day I thought we could focus on the Claddagh ring. Everyone knows that the Claddagh ring is part of Irish tradition but I thought we could revisit the actual meaning of the ring itself. The elements of the ring are said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown). The expression associated with these symbols when giving the ring was “With my two hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my loyalty.” The expression, “Let love and friendship reign forever” can be found as another meaning of these symbols. The way the ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer’s romantic availability, or the lack thereof. If the ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing outward, this means that the wearer is not romantically linked but is looking for love. When the ring is turned inwards it means the wearer is in a relationship or their heart has been “captured”. Lastly, when the Claddagh is worn on the left hand with the heart facing outward this means the wearer is engaged; turned inwards indicates the wearer is married. Enjoy, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

This necklace from Tangled Up in Blue Designs is so beautiful. I look at it all the time and wish I had an occasion for it. This necklace is such a statement piece and I am all about statement jewelry. There is something so effortless about it but yet it will attract alot of attention. Cynthia Ray of Tangled Up in Blue is a local designer and we just stocked the shelves with new jewelry of hers, but this remains my favorite!

First things first Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and Happy starting off the new year right!

The Holiday Season can get pretty crazy around here and on top of that a producer from VH1 gave us a ring and wanted to film a segment on handbags for a new reality show! For realzzz! We were excited about this but had to close the shop for a few hours during one of the busiest times of the year! The day came, the cameras and crew blocked the street and it was straight "Hollywood" up in here, but in the end it was a success! I will keep you updated on when to look for us on VH1!

This month's shoe might actually be my favorite. There is not a more appropriate shoe for the holidays out there. The Jeffrey Campbell Electric, available in red or black suede. I am in love with the red but the black suede is hot as well. You think they look good in the picture, wait till you put them on your feet!
